THE BEST WINE FOR ITALIAN COOKING

There is nothing better than finding the perfect bottle of wine that complements your food. So why should it be any different with your cooking? When you’re not sampling the delicious food in our restaurant, we want to give you some tips on the perfect wine to accompany your own Italian cooking. So look no further than our wine guide. When finding the perfect wine to accompany one of the nation’s favourite Italian dishes –spaghetti bolognese, we recommend staying away from Cabernet Sauvignon or Nebbiolo. As the flavours in wine become more concentrated when cooked, these wines will be too harsh for the famous Italian meal. However, a medium dry red wine will be ideal for this dish, either a Merlot or Pinot Noir. Or alternatively, you can leave the cooking to us and come in for a dish of our ‘Pappardelle Bolognese’, made with the perfect bottle of red.

Next up we have risotto. Made with white wine, this dish can easily be ruined by the wrong bottle. For a dish like our ‘Risotti al Frutti di Mare’ or ‘Risotto con Capesante e Gamberoni’, we’d recommend a crisp Chardonnay or Pinot Bianco. We find these to be the perfect addition with a delicious bowl of seafood risotto. Sauvignon Blanc such as Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé can also work with other seafood dishes, including oysters, prawns and grilled fish such as seabass.

Another one of our popular dishes ‘Cosciotto D’Agnello’, lamb shanks with a red wine and tomato sauce is a firm favourite on our menu. If you want to make this dish yourself we recommend a full bodied red wine, such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, to give the dish a rich and delectable flavour.
